Airborne takes all in '09 Q-o-K

This one was all about the ladies.
The 2009 Queen of Kings Ladies King Mackerel Tournament put the spotlight squarely on the fairer sex and it shone brightest on the crew from Team Airborne as they took home the top prize.
Hitting the scales at the tail end of the weigh-in window, Kelly Campbell, Amy Madden and Kendall McMullen dwarfed the field by more than 10 pounds with a 40.16-pound king. They got the big trophy, the tiara and sash to signify their reign as queens and, of course, the winner’s paycheck.
“We went last year and I think we placed fourth,” Campbell said. “I just love this tournament, it’s such a good time. Hopefully we can stay on the board again next year.”
Buckwild placed second at 29.80 with Steel Hooked coming in third with a 28.34-pound king – and the largest fish of the event, wowing the waiting crowd with an 88-pound wahoo. Kingscape’s 23.70-pound king took fourth and Fat Jax placed fifth with a 21.34-pound fish. Brittany King rounded out the prize winners as she took home the top junior angler spot – The Princess award – with an 8.62-pounder.

Twenty-four boats took part in the second-annual event and 14 weighed in kings.
